When you think of the top fashion labels, among the most common ones that spring to mind are Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Prada, Armani and Dolce and Gabbana, to name but a few.   Once upon a time to be a top fashion designer you had to be just that – a designer.  In many cases these designers came from humble beginnings and had to work unbelievably hard in order to claw their way to the front of the pack and prove their worth to the public and the industry.

However, times are changing and the fashion industry is clearly moving with the times.  Whereas once you needed an eye for detail, a skilled hand with a needle and the vision for design, nowadays it appears having the right face, or name, maybe enough.  Enter the world of the celebrity fashion label.  Celebrity fashion lines are nothing new, but surprisingly they often do extremely well.  Names such as Victoria Beckham, Gwen Stafani, Justin Timberlake and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen all have their own fashion labels which are gaining in reputation.  Even the younger celebrities are joining in with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Lily Allen and Disney’s Selena Gomez  all launching their own fashion lines.

But is there any real difference between the top fashion labels and the newer celebrity fashion labels?  Honestly, probably not?  After all, the top fashion designers are frequently awarded celebrity status.  Designers such as Stella McCartney and Donatella Versace are frequently seen in the pages of celebrity magazines, and some such as Ralph Lauren, Kenneth Cole and Brian Reyes have made guest appearances in popular US TV shows like Friends and Ugly Betty.

Even when searching for a list of top ten designers, names like Sean John (P Diddy) and Sienna and Savannah Miller are now popping up between the likes of Chanel and Ralph Lauren.

So clearly ‘how’ they gained their designer status is not an issue to the general public and as long as the clothes are still of the best quality and at the top end of fashion there is always going to be a huge demand for their work.

So the question is, why are the general public so in love with top labels? Well top designers are at the top of their game for a reason – their product is of the best quality.  Designer labels are typically better tailored and designed to fit you better and make you look and feel good in. Even the most simplest of clothes that you wear can also be found in the designer clothes category, and you will notice the difference the moment you try them on. A better cut, style, design and fabric all go into making top labels the sought after garments that they are.  Even the price tag does not deter the most enterprising of fashion seekers, who see it as an investment as opposed to a waste.  After all, it is true that you are often judged by what you are wearing and if you have invested in a top quality item you will feel the difference in the quality as soon as you put it on.  If you feel good in yourself then others can surely see that too.
